Over 25,500 Whitstable Medical Practice patients have received at least their first dose of covid vaccination. Nearly 15,000 patients have now completed the vaccination course.
We are now inviting all patients aged 30 and over to contact us urgently to book for vaccination. Please contact your usual reception now to book.
Patients awaiting their second dose should only contact us if approaching (or over) the 12 week interval. We are aware of new Government guidelines and will be working to bring patients closer to an 8 week interval. At the present time however we cannot move any patients due to uncertainty over vaccine delivery. We will contact you when appropriate, please do not contact reception about this.
Details of priority groupings and current progress are below for your information:
We must continue to request that wherever possible all patients have someone chauffeur them to their appointment. This will ensure there are no delays in getting your vaccine and also prevents congestion. There are an array of fantastic taxi companies locally who have brought hundreds of patients through. If you are unable to organise a chauffeur you will have to leave your vehicle, queue outdoors and receive your vaccination in a separate mobile unit. This could be unpleasant if weather conditions are poor so please be warned!!
Thank you for your continued patience and support.

COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 14th April 2021

Despite recent media announcements, we still await authorisation in order to be able to begin vaccinating those patients aged under 50 who are not ‘at risk’. We are told this will be imminent but cannot book any patients at the present time. Even with this authorisation, due to a national shortage, we are not expecting to be able offer many new appointments for at least the rest of April.
Please be assured we will invite younger age groups (in age order) as soon as we are in a position to do so. We will contact you, please do not contact reception.
Here is a reminder of current risk groupings and an update on current progress:

COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 31th March 2021

Over 22,500 Whitstable Medical Practice patients have received at least their first dose of covid vaccination. We have 33,000 patients aged 18 and over which puts into perspective the amazing achievements so far. We have now completed groups 1 through to 9. If you are aged 50 and over or clinically as risk and still require vaccination we would urge you to contact the practice. We will make sure you are offered an appointment ASAP! Unfortunately,  we are not yet permitted to proceed to vaccinate any patients in groups 10 – 12. Our sincerest apologies to some 49 and 48 years olds that we recently had to cancel because of this. We eagerly await national authorisation to vaccinate these groups. Please be aware are also expecting incredibly limited supply of vaccine for the month of April due to a national shortage in stock. We want to reassure all patients aged 18-49 that we will invite you as soon as we possibly can. It is our strong recommendation that you be vaccinated by the practice. Our unique outdoor service offers unrivalled safety and social distancing, while ensuring you are seen most locally. We are continually contacted by patients who have visited Mass Vaccination Sites elsewhere for their first vaccination and had appointments moved or cancelled. We expect this problem to increase as some of these sites return to usual business. This will not happen if you have your vaccination course with us!  During the month of April we will be busy working to provide second dose vaccinations to patients. If you received the Pfizer vaccination and are still awaiting a second dose we will contact you approximately 11 weeks after your first dose. Details of priority groupings and current progress are below for your information:

We have signed up to expand our vaccination programme so that we hope to soon be able to offer vaccination to all patients aged 18 and over. This is likely to form three new priority groups for us to focus on. Details of priority groupings and current progress are below for your information:

COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 16th February 2021

Thank you to all patients for attending our vaccination clinic on Saturday. Despite arctic conditions we were able to successfully vaccinate another 1100 patients, completing patients in groups 1 – 4 in line with the government deadline. We have now vaccinated a total of nearly 10,000 patients. We have now been made aware that patients in group 5 (those aged 65-69) will be receiving invitation from central NHS to attend a mass vaccination site. If you have already booked an appointment at a mass vaccination site please keep this appointment as this will release a vaccine for another of our patients. We are however aware that the convenience and safety of our drive thru service is very attractive to many patients and consequently we are happy to provide your vaccination if this is your strong preference.
We are working this week to contact all patients in group 5 personally to ensure that patients do not slip the net and that all receive offer of vaccination either via us or a mass vaccination site. We will contact you, please do not call the surgery.
From the beginning of next week we will begin focus on group 6 patients, those aged 16 – 64 who are in an at risk group. Again, we will be contacting eligible patients personally and in priority order so please wait for us to contact you, do not call the surgery.

  • Painful, tender arm
  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • General aches, or mild flu like symptomsPatients can self-report suspected side effects if they wish through the Yellow Card Scheme:  https://coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

We are however here if you need us to discuss anything more serious with us.

COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 11th February 2021

Please be reassured that our vaccination clinic this Saturday will be going ahead as planned. We have gritters and snow ploughs on standby if required but the forecast is looking good. Please therefore keep your appointment. Please ensure you are chauffeured to your appointment wherever possible to avoid extended waits. This weekend will mark completion of groups 1 – 4 and so we are now able to move to group 5, patients aged 65 and over. We have over 3000 patients within this category and so due to limited supply of vaccine, can at present only offer appointments to patients aged 68 and over ONLY. We will be in touch with these patients directly via telephone over the course of the next few days. Thank you for your continued patience and support.

COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 9th February 2021

We remain committed to vaccinating all patients in risk groups 1-4 by this weekend. If you are 70 or over or classed as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable and have not already been contacted or booked an appointment PLEASE CONTACT US NOW. Please spread the word amongst your relatives and friends who fall into these categories. We will update later in the week when we hope to be able to offer appointment for patients aged 65+ but await delivery confirmation before we can do this. COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 29th January 2021

We have received confirmation of additional vaccine deliveries and are consequently now able to accept bookings for all patients aged 70 or over & those patients classed as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable.
We will be in contact personally to invite eligible patients via SMS and telephone calls in the coming days. Patients may contact reception rather than wait for a call if this is their preference.
We are working as quickly as we can to vaccinate eligible patients but are entirely restricted by the supply of vaccine at present.
For those attending appointments please:
1. Wherever possible have someone chauffeur you to your appointment. This will ensure there are no delays in getting your vaccine and also prevents congestion. There are an array of fantastic taxi companies locally who have brought hundreds of patients though. Some including Allport Cars are even offering this for free subject to capacity!
2. Please wear a face mask at all times
3. Please ensure the top of your arm nearest the window is undressed BEFORE you reach your lane
For those who have already been vaccinated:
Please ensure you continue to follow government guidance surrounding the virus. Even though a full course will reduce your chance of becoming seriously ill, it is not yet known whether it will stop you from catching and passing on the virus, although it is expected to reduce this risk. So, it is still important to follow the guidance in the local area to protect those around you.

To protect yourself and your family, friends and colleagues you still need to:
• Practice social distancing
• Wear a face mask
• Wash your hands carefully and frequently
• Follow the current guidance
Thank you for your continued patience and support.

We are vaccinating as many patients as quickly as we possibly can but are hampered by limited supply of vaccine.
For those attending appointments please:
1. Wherever possible have someone chauffeur you to your appointment. This will ensure there are no delays in getting your vaccine and also prevents congestion. There are an array of fantastic taxi companies locally who have brought hundreds of patients though. Some including Allports Cars are even offering this for free subject to capacity!

We will be in contact personally to invite eligible patients via the telephone in the coming days. Patients may contact reception rather than wait for a call if this is their preference. We are working as quickly as we can to vaccinate eligible patients but are entirely restricted by the supply of vaccine at present. This prevents our drive thru from becoming congested and helps to reduce patient wait times.

COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 18th January 2021

We are expecting a delivery of 800 AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccines this Wednesday 20th January and will consequently be running another drive thru clinic this Saturday 23rd January. This clinic is available exclusively for patients aged 78 and over only.
We will be in contact personally to invite eligible patients via the telephone in the coming days. Patients may contact reception rather than wait for a call if this is their preference. We are working as quickly as we can to vaccinate eligible patients but are entirely restricted by the supply of vaccine at present. If you are attending our drive thru clinic please may we insist that someone drives you to your appointment. This prevents our drive thru from becoming congested and also means patients will not have to wait for 15 minutes after their vaccination. Thank you for your continued patience and support.

COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 12th January 2021

With sincerest apologies for leaving things to the last moment, our delivery this morning arrived at the wrong surgery but we are delighted to announce it is now on the way back to us from Chatham.
ALL PATIENTS BOOKED TO ATTEND TODAY, TUESDAY 12TH JANUARY OR WEDNESDAY 13TH JANUARY MUST PLEASE ATTEND THEIR APPOINTMENT AS PREVIOUSLY ARRANGED
We will be texting and calling as many patients as we can but please spread the word to any affected friends and family.
Thank you once again to all patients for their support and kindness.

COVID VACCINATION UPDATE: 6th January 2021

As you might already be aware, a recent change in government advice has unfortunately created some uncertainty where the recommended timescales for second dose of covid vaccination are concerned. Nationally, all vaccination deliveries have been rescheduled and we are presently unsure whether our delivery for those expecting the second dose of vaccine for next week will arrive. We will not know until Monday whether we have sufficient vaccine to honour appointments for those patients booked on 12th and 13th January however our message to all concerned is please turn up for your appointment unless we tell you otherwise. Please understand that the current supply and delivery situation is entirely out of the control of Whitstable Medical Practice and is being co-ordinated at national level. We sincerely apologise therefore for any short notice changes or cancellations that we have to inflict on patients, this is not how we would ever choose to operate! We hope in the coming weeks to have much more certainty and control over the supply of vaccination. In the meantime, please be assured that we are doing all we can to provide the vaccine to those who need it most as quickly as we are able to. We are presently offering appointments to all patients aged 80 and over ONLY but will be in touch directly with all patients as soon as we can offer an appointment. We thank all patients for their support and understanding at these increasingly challenging times.
