Referrals
Helpful information and guidance for patients waiting for a hospital consultation, treatment or surgery.
e-Referral Service
The NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) combines electronic booking with a choice of place, date and time for first hospital or clinic appointments. Patients can choose their initial hospital or clinic appointment, book it in the GP surgery at the point of referral, or later at home on the phone or online.
My Planned Care
Millions of patients on the waiting list for NHS care will be able to access support and check wait times at their fingertips thanks to a new online platform called My Planned Care.
The platform will allow patients and their carers to access information ahead of their planned appointment, operation or treatment through the touch of a button.

PALS (Patient Advice and Liason Service)
For hospital services and treatment
PALS aims to help patients and carers with their questions and problems concerning health and related services. The NHS can then learn from patients’ experiences.
What does PALS do?
- Provide information for patients, their families and carers about health and local health service.
- Put people in touch with voluntary organisations and support groups.
- Help people sort out problems and concerns quickly, before they get more serious and cause anxiety.
- Advise on how to make a complaint if that becomes necessary.
- Act as an early warning system, by listening to the views of patients and their families and alerting NHS services to any gaps in services.
- Liase with other NHS staff to improve local health services.
- Understand basic medical terminology and internal structures of the NHS.
- Want to know when thigs are going well and you have received good service from the NHS.
- Please note the PALS service is now only for use in conjunction with any hospital treatment or service you have received. However the Practice Manager will be happy to listen to your comments or suggestions about Whitstable Medical Practice.
